A. Project Description

The Korean Cultural Center is currently located at 460 Park Avenue in New York City. The Cultural Center is run by the Korean Cultural Service of New York and is a governmental institution inaugurated in December 1979 to establish and promote Korean culture and aesthetics in New York. The center provides diverse cultural and artistic activities including gallery exhibitions, performing arts concerts, film festivals, and educational programs.

The Cultural Service has acquired a 6,400 square foot site on East 32nd Street between Park and Lexington Avenue to construct the New York Korea Center. The design includes an iconic eight story, approximately 36,500 square foot structure with a 190 seat theater. The site abuts an Amtrak tunnel and is bounded by several neighboring properties. Many of the neighboring buildings will require underpinning.

The project is completely designed and has been approved by the NYC Department of Buildings for permit. The KCSNY expects to bid the entire project in early 2016 and begin construction in early Summer, 2016. KCSNY has targeted an occupancy date of 17 months after construction start, which is Winter, 2017.
